7 th & 8 th Grade GATE Ms. McTighe Mrs. Naugle

W E L C O M E T O G A T E... 0 My name is Ms. McTighe. Either Mrs. Naugle or I will be your child’s GATE teacher this year. I come to you with twenty years of experience with both the North Hills School District and Carnegie Mellon’s C-MITES (Carnegie Mellon’s Investigation of Talented Elementary Students) program. I have a B. S. in Mathematics and PA teaching certification for grades k-12. I look forward to meeting all of you and working with your children throughout the year. 0 I would like to take a moment to explain how the GATE program operates at the Middle School. Unlike the elementary schools, there is no GATE “class.” There are scheduled monthly GATE meetings that are announced during homeroom. In addition, students are encouraged to stop by the GATE office anytime throughout the day to inquire about programming. Further information about gifted programming may be found on the Middle School’s web page under “teacher/department pages” and then click on “Middle School GATE” in the left margin. A posting of events will occur monthly. You will find direct links and word files describing each event. Students are required to sign-up in the GATE office B215 for each event they plan to attend. In addition, permission forms must be signed by all of the student’s teachers and guardians two weeks prior to an event. Unfortunately, most events limit the number of participants. So if you see something posted that you know may interest your child, please encourage them to sign up right away. 0 The classroom teacher also plays a pertinent role in the delivery of gifted services. As each teacher reviews their students’ GIEPs, adaptations are made to differentiate the curriculum where necessary for gifted students to be challenged in the lesson. 0 The Middle School GATE program seeks to provide each gifted student with not just a fully enriching educational experience, but an intellectual stimulating one as well. If you should have any questions regarding the middle school gifted program, please contact me

What is GATE?  GATE stands for Gifted and Talented Education  Specially designed programming for identified gifted and high achieving students  Monthly opportunities are posted on the Middle School web site under Teacher/Department  Students are encouraged by all faculty members to explore and discover their interests through GATE sponsored activities  A closely knit family

Location 0 The GATE room is in B215 located on the second floor next to the stairwell by the library. Please feel free to stop in anytime. Students will often times study in the GATE room during their homeroom period.
