World History with Mr. Golden __________________________________________________________ Martin Luther’s “95 Theses” I think I’ll just redecorate this door here…

Objective: ________________________________________________________ FLWBAT describe the impacts of new religious ideas in Europe at the tail end of the Middle Ages

Agenda: ________________________________________________________ - Review - Spread of new ideas notes - Printing press pros and cons - Martin Luther guided reading - Create your own theses - We’re done!

Staple it in! ________________________________________________________ Ka-chunk!

Spread of New Ideas: ________________________________________________________ Paper: o Papermaking spread from China to the Middle East to Europe (CULTURAL DIFFUSION!) o Cheaper and easier to produce, paper quickly replaced the animal skins on which Europeans had written before

Spread of New Ideas: ________________________________________________________ Movable Type: o In the mid-1400s, a German named Johan Gutenberg developed a printing press that used movable type o Movable type is a system of reusable metal letters that can be fit into a frame to spell whatever you want! Here’s how it worked: A worker fitted letters into a frame, spread ink on the letters, and then pressed a sheet of paper against the letters. An entire page was printed at once. The worker could then rearrange the letters in the frame to create a new page!

Spread of New Ideas: ________________________________________________________ Availability of Books: o In 1456, Gutenberg printed the Bible in Latin - it was later translated and printed in other languages o As the Bible became increasingly available, more people learned to read and began to desire education again

Comparing Pages: ________________________________________________________ Before the printing press:After the printing press: Printing Press ProsPrinting Press Cons

It is inappropriate for students alone to be expected to comply with a uniform policy. If there is to be a policy regarding attire in the building, it should apply equally to all – regardless of age or position. And so on, and so on, and so on… USE YOUR TIME WISELY!
