Lesson 7.02 Six more dynasties! A dynasty is a kingdom passed from father to son. Just like in Egypt!!

#2 Zhou dynasty- Pronounced “Joe” King Wu of the Zhou takes control from the Shang. (the ruler of the Shang had been behaving very badly—he was torturing people, playing favorites—not nice! King Wu meets no resistance from the Shang The Zhou believed that they had a “Mandate of Heaven” to overthrow the Shang Mandate of Heaven means the will of the gods

Mandate of Heaven Will of the gods, the Mandate of Heaven determines if a dynasty stays in power Will stay in power as long as the leaders are good Dynastic Cycle: If people are overtaxed, people are not protected, if there is injustice—government loses mandate Then there would be natural disasters, revolts, invaders New Dynasty comes in with Mandate of Heaven Peace and Harmony

Zhou Western era Eastern era Spring And Autumn Warring States Hundreds of villages Local rulers set up to control villages Feudal system: peasants serve a land owning lord Villages always fighting—the capital moves EAST! Contribution #1. Great Wall of China The Great Wall of China was built for protection from the northern nomadic tribes and other enemies. The first wall was made from dirt mounds but the wall we know today is made from stone and brick. I ranked the Great Wall first because I think it’s a great tourist attraction and I want to visit China this summer Example of a power point slide show
