Preterite Tense Spanish 1-2
How do I speak in the past tense in Spanish? There are 2 ways: Preterite This way is a one time event with a specific time that it occurred. Usually words like yesterday, last night, last summer, in may of 2010 etc…. Imperfect This is a routine in the past. We know it is in the past but is a routine. Usually words like everyday last summer, every winter etc.
Preterite Tense We are only going to focus on this type of past tense for this last unit. Just like the present tense there are endings for the Preterite: “ar” – é, -aste, -ó, -amos, -aron “er/ir”- í, iste, -ió, imos, - ieron
Examples “ar” example: Hablé Hablaste Habló Hablamos hablaron “er” example Comí Comiste Comió Comimos Comieron “ir” example Viví Viviste Vivió Vivimos vivieron
There are some irregulars Don’t follow the rules! “ir” –to go Fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fueron “ser” ---to be Fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fueron YES THEY ARE THE SAME
Practice with your partner Give each other 3 verbs to conjugate into all 5 forms: Your verbs: bucear, aplaudir, comer Partner’s verbs: esquiar, perder, vivir
Speaking activity for class Ask 10 people in the class where they went. You have to write their answers on a paper after you ask them: ¿Dónde fuiste ayer? (where did you go yesterday?) They have to give you 2 answers and respond: Fui a….( I went to…then name 2 places) Be prepared with 2 places you went!
