 If justification comes by faith in Christ, and not through the Law or fleshly descent, God’s word has failed – (9:6)  God is unjust if He equally extends mercy to the Gentiles – (9:14-16)  God shouldn’t blame the Jews for failing to come to faith in Christ, they were God’s chosen people? – (9:19,20) Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man

 “I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen...” – (9:2-4)  “My heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved” – (10:1,2)  “God has not cast away His people” – (11:1-10) Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man

 Paul points to himself as an example - (1) – Paul was a Jew – therefore God has not cast away His people – (Acts 22:3; 26:4; 2 Cor. 11:22; Phili 3:5)  Paul points to the lesson learned by Elijah, - (2-4) – Elijah thought he was alone – but there were 7,000 who had not bowed a knee to Baal – (1 Kings 19:10,14,19) Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man

 A remnant according to the choosing of unmerited favor - (5,6) – Not by the Law – not of works, (i.e. merit) but by grace, (justification through faith – unmerited forgiveness) – (Romans 3:27,28; 4:4,5; Gal. 2:21; 5:4; Eph. 2:8-10; Titus 3:3-5)  The Jews were blinded - (7-10) – They were guilty of opposing God - (Rom. 9:31,32; 10:1-4; Mat. 13:14,15; Deut. 29:4; Isaiah 29:10; Ps. 69:22,23) Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man

 Through the Jews rejection of the gospel – “salvation has come to the Gentiles” - (11-15) – The riches of God was first extended to the Jews – after their rejection the gospel is sent to the Gentiles, (Acts 13:46-48; 18:6; 28:24-28; Rom 10:12; Eph 3:8)  To provoke the Jews that some of them might be saved - (11- 15) –– (Rom. 10:19; Deut. 32:21) Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man

God Raised Up Rejected God’s word God Hardened through His word & mercy God’s purpose was not thwarted by their rebellion Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man

 The first fruit is holy - (16) – The dough made from the first harvest for the heave offering – all that is taken from it is holy, (Numb 15:19-21)  The root is holy - (16) –The root refers to Abraham and the fathers therefore the branches, (decedents) are also holy – that is consecrated to God for His use - (Genesis 17:7; Jer. 2:21) Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man

 Some branches of the original olive tree were broken off - (17- 21) – Broken off because of unbelief - (vs. 20; Jer. 11:16; John 15:6; Acts 13:46)  Wild branches grafted in to the original olive tree - (17-22) –by faith – to partake of the blessings of the root – the promise God gave to Abraham – could be cut off - (Genesis 17:7; Eph. 2:11-13) Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man

 Jews can be grafted in again if they turn to God in faith - (23-24) – Easier to graft in the natural branches than the unnatural - (cf. Rom 3:1-3; Zec. 12:10; 2 Cor. 3:16)  Salvation can be lost and regained – (1 Cor. 5:1-5; 10:1- 13; 2 Pet. 2:20-22) Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man

 Gentiles are not to think of themselves too highly - (25) – The hardening of Israel is “in part until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in” - (cf. Rom 11:7,8; 2 Cor. 3:14-16)  In this manner – all Israel shall be saved – through the new covenant – (26,27) – (Rom. 1:16,17; Eph 2:14-18)  Jews still loved – (28) – (Jer 31:3) Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man

Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Romans 11:29-36 (NKJV) 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. 30 For as you were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience, 31 even so these also have now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy. 32 For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.

Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Romans 11:29-36 (NKJV) 33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! 34 "For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?" 35 "Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?" 36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36 The Gospel – God’s Power To Save Man Romans 1:16-17 (NKJV) 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith."

 Have you heard the word of God?  Do you believe the word of God, i.e. do you believe in he name of Jesus Christ – His death, burial and resurrection?  Have you confessed Jesus before men?  Have you obeyed the gospel- i.e. have you repented and been baptized in the name of Christ? Lesson 12 – Romans 11:1-36
