The Big 5 Under PBIS Umbrella What? The interconnection of all of the various ‘Positive’ programs together. This synergy strengthens the overall climate of the school and allows for a streamlined and efficient delivery services.

The Big 5 Under PBIS Umbrella Why? Common Goal It reduces the overlapping of the different programs Gives the view of the big picture Reduces scheduling conflicting of events Emphasizes the sense of unity throughout all programs Working Smarter to Work Harder
The Big 5 Under PBIS Umbrella How? Each subcommittee has a chair person that organizes the events and activities under their domain. Monthly core meetings are held, where each chair person share, reviews, plans, and fine tunes the implementation of their program.

Where Everyone Belongs (W.E.B.) Emphasis: Ease transition of 6 th grade students into the middle school atmosphere, as well as, develop leadership qualities within 8 th grade students. Composure: Various faculty members; ie. Teachers from all grade levels, Teachers from all curriculums, & Specialized Behavioral-based Teachers. Synergistic Elements: Advisory – 8 th grade WEB Leaders teach 6 th grade students Incentive- Celebration activies: ie. Advisory Emphasis: Foster the relationship between faculty member and student throughout the entire school. Each faculty member is viewed as mentor; Group of students is viewed as family. Composure: Various faculty members; ie. All Teachers, Guidance Counselors, Administrations, Instructional Assistant, & Support Staff. Students are arranged by grade and consist of around students within each family. Synergistic Elements: WEB- 8 th grade WEB Leaders teach 6 th grade students lessons Discipline – Academic/Behavior vs. Attendance double triangle Character Counts & Olweus – educational platform
Advisory One of the many activities with in the Advisory Time (Team B) was the emphasis on Peace. We had several lessons about peace and the display towards others. In addition, we had a Peace Poster contest – see example. Finally, we incorporated ‘Community Read’ which focused on the book, “Schooled” by Gordon Korman and emphasized issues of bullying, tolerance, & peace. Give peace a chance!
Incentives Emphasis: Reward students for positive behavior, as well as, inspire to continually improve their behavior. Composure: Various faculty members; ie. Grade Level Teachers, Guidance Counselors, Behavioral Specialists & Bus Drivers, Support Staff (Cafeteria & Custodians) Parent/Community Volunteers. Synergistic Elements: Discipline – Battle of the Busses Character Counts – educational platform Attendance – rewarding for regular attendance
