ADVISOR AND ADVISEE ALL SERVICE HOURS ARE DUE BY MAY 17 TH TURN YOUR SERVICE FORMS IN EARLY TO ENSURE THEY ARE COUNTED! SOA Diploma

SOA Mission It is our belief that students are best prepared to meet the challenges of the 21 st century through a rigorous preparation across the arts and academic fields. The SOA Diploma seeks to: build upon a tradition of shared partnership with the artistic community and working professionals create a culture of service learning and community involvement advance student understanding of all art disciplines promote a culture of high expectations for student achievement in both the arts and academics

SOA Diploma Requirements Academic Requirements: A Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher Successful completion of Arts and Humanities or AP Art History Arts Requirements: Successful completion of your arts major and senior thesis Community Service Requirements: Complete 20 hours of community service each year A maximum of 10 hours per project is permissible each year All community service must be completed through approved organizations (see Approved Service Organizations form) Students must get pre-approval for the completion of service hours for non-SOA approved organizations and projects (the permission form is attached to the Approved Service Organizations Form)

Community Service Hours Community Service: work or service performed for the benefit of disadvantaged groups or persons in need Note: pay special attention to fill out the Community Service Form completely and in detail *forms can be picked up at the front desk or printed from the SOA homepage Date(s) of Service Name of Supervisor /Phone # Disadvantaged Population Served Name of Organization, Service Preformed, Location # of Hours

Frequently Asked Questions Why can I only complete 10 hours of community service per project? Students may receive approval for more that 10 hours for a given project. Students must first receive approval for the project from the SOA Diploma Committee. Complete the permission form at the bottom of the Approved Service Organizations Form I turned my community service form in, why did I not receive credit for my hours? Your hours were not approved for one of two reasons: The service you preformed and the disadvantaged population served were not clearly stated on the form. Be sure to clearly complete the form in detail. Your service was deemed volunteering. Your actions did not service a disadvantaged population. Submit your form early to ensure you receive credit!

Frequently Asked Questions Where can I find information about the SOA Diploma? Information about the SOA Diploma is posted on the SOA homepage under the student link. Where can I find out about community service opportunities? We encourage you to call any of the approved service organizations to inquire about service opportunities. News about service opportunities is displayed throughout the HS building and on the SOA homepage Can I make up service hours if I did not complete them last year? Sophomores may redeem late service hours at a 50% penalty Juniors and seniors may redeem past due community service hours at a 100% penalty Example: A sophomore that completed zero hours of community service freshman year will need to complete 30 hours in addition to the required 20; a junior that completed zero hours sophomore year will need to complete 40 hours in addition to the required 20 hours of community service
