Sp. 3 Honors c.7

algosomething, somewhat alguiensomeone, anyone siemprealways algunas vecessometimes tambiénalso o…oeither…or todavíastill aúnstill

nadanothing, not (at all) nadie no one, nobody, not anyone nunca, jamásnever, not ever ningún, ningunonone, not any, no tampoconot either ni…nineither…nor todavía nonot yet ya nonot anymore

Most sentences can be made negative by placing the word NO in front of the verb. ie…Fernando me dijo la verdad. Fernando no me dijo la verdad.

Negative indefinites may either preceed the verb OR come after the verb IF no preceeds the verb.. ie…Nada encontramos. No encontramos nada. Nunca miro la tele. No miro nunca la tele.

Both nunca and jamás are translated as never. Jamás is usually considered more emphatic. ie…Nunca miro la tele. ¿Nunca? ¡Jamás!

Both nunca and jamas are translated as never. HOWEVER in a question where a negative answer is “expected”, jamás is translated as EVER. Alguna vez is used for ever in a question with an unknown respose. ie…¿Has oído jamás el cuento? ¿Has comido alguna vez esta comida?

Alguien and Nadie both refer to unknown people. Alguno and ninguno can be used for either people or things. ie…¿Hay alguien en la casa? Algunos de mis amigos van al cine esta noche.

Alguno and ninguno can be used as adjectives. If they come in front of a masc. singular noun, then the “o” gets dropped off. ie…Marta no tiene ningún bolígrafo.
