Purpose The effects of pollution on the amount of light emitted from bioluminescent bacteria.

Hypothesis Alternate: Water with higher amounts of hydrocarbons will cause a decrease in the amount of light emitted from the bacteria Null: Water with hydrocarbons in it will have no effect on the amount of light emitted from the bacteria.

Methodology Water is collected from different locations and a sample of each is tested for the amount of hydrocarbons present. Bioluminescent bacteria are placed into different samples of water After 24 hours the BLR will be calculated for each sample of water. Control No hydrocarbon in water Variable 1 Lowest amount of hydrocarbon in water Variable 2 Medium amount of hydrocarbon in water Variable 3 Highest amount of hydrocarbon in water Statistical Analysis: ANOVA followed by a Sheffe post hoc test
