anonymous (a non y mous) Definition – (adj) unnamed, unknown The author of the letter remains anonymous.

browse Definition - (v) to nibble, graze; to read casually; to window-shop Many people like to browse through the neighborhood stores.

dupe Definition- (n) a person easily tricked; (v) to deceive The student reversed the digits in his locker combination so as to dupe anyone who tried to get in it.

dynamic (dy nam ic) Definition- (adj) active, energetic, forceful Some people refer to Batman and Robin as the dynamic duo.

eradicate (e rad i cate) Definition – (v) to root out, get rid of destroy completely We must eradicate poverty in our country.

frustrate (frus trate) Definition – (v) to prevent from accomplishing a purpose or fulfilling a desire, to cause feelings of discouragement The game of golf is not meant to frustrate the player.

prescribe (pre scribe) Definition – (v) to order as a rule or course to be followed; to order for medical purposes The doctor will prescribe a medicine for the rash.

preview (pre view) Definition – (n) something seen in advance; (v) to view beforehand It is fun to watch the previews for the upcoming shows.

prominent (prom i nent) Definition – (adj) standing out so it can be easily seen; important, well-known The Sear’s Tower is a prominent building in Chicago.

quaint Definition – (adj) odd or old-fashioned in a pleasing way; clever Some cities in Europe are quaint.

scrimp Definition –(v) to handle very economically or stingily; to supply in a way that is small, short or scanty If we scrimp for several weeks we can buy some new school clothes.

reluctant (re luc tant) Definition – (adj) unwilling, holding back Both the flower girl and ring bearer were reluctant to walk down the aisle.

snare Definition – (v) to trap, catch; (n) a trap or entanglement The boys made a snare to catch the animal.

utmost (ut most) Definition – (adj) greatest, highest, farthest (n) the extreme limit It is of utmost importance to follow all safety rules while conducting an experiment.

vengeance (ven geance) Definition – (n) punishment in return for an injury or a wrong; unusual force or violence The winter storm came in the valley with a vengeance.
