3 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Advanced Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 26: v1.1, 20-Oct-2013 (2) Licence Conditions - 2 Maritime Operation Maritime Mobile refers to operation on a “Vessel at Sea” Remember that rivers, canals and estuaries are on the landward side of the coastline and are thus Inland Waters - Operation on them is /M - not /MM “Vessels at Sea” are those operating on the seaward side of the low-water line along the coastline as marked on large scale charts officially recognised by the relevant coastal state; If on a Vessel at Sea you may sign as /MM - for Maritime Mobile

4 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Advanced Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 26: v1.1, 20-Oct-2013 (2) Licence Conditions - 2 Maritime Mobile Operating on a Vessel at Sea is /MM This needs written permission of the Vessel’s master A Vessels Master may also:- –Require you to observe Radio Silence –Require that you keep a Log Book –Require you to cease operation. In UK Waters you can still use regional identifiers with your callsign In International Waters:- –Only use the callsign defined on your licence –Only use frequencies allocated to the Amateur Service in the appropriate Region of the full ITU Regulations** **ITU = International Telecommunications Union

5 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Advanced Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 26: v1.1, 20-Oct-2013 (2) Licence Conditions - 2 ITU Regions The ITU splits the world into Three Regions: Region 1: Europe/Africa Region 2: Americas Region 3: Asia/Pacific Note that UK bands such as 50 & 70MHz are not allocated in the ITU Regs and therefore would not be permitted for /MM operations For info:- IARU Regions are similar to ITU ones

6 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Advanced Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 26: v1.1, 20-Oct-2013 (2) Licence Conditions - 2 CEPT CEPT = Conference of European Posts & Telecommunications A Full Licence permits operation in countries who are signatories to CEPT Agreement T/R T/R is on the European Radiocommunication Office website If not a CEPT Country there may be other reciprocal agreements - but make sure you check beforehand!

7 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Advanced Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 26: v1.1, 20-Oct-2013 (2) Licence Conditions - 2 CEPT Operation Abroad The Licensee may operate in countries which have implemented CEPT Recommendation T/R in accordance with its terms Only permits operations as a temporary visitor (eg up to 3 months) to, and not a resident of, the relevant host country. Your full callsign becomes prefixed by the Country For example: F/M0QQQ(in France), D/M0QQQ (in Germany) Must acquire and abide by the regulations of the host county –Powers, frequencies or other conditions may differ to the UK –A breach of the Host terms is also a breach of your UK Licence terms NB1: A list of T/R signatories can be found on NB2: Check beforehand - Some countries still require Morse for HF use.

8 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Advanced Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 26: v1.1, 20-Oct-2013 (2) Licence Conditions - 2 Visitors to the UK CEPT Full Licensees who visit the UK can operate here under the terms of the UK Licence conditions They would sign as Mx/Callsign. For example:- M/F1QQQ or MW/F1QQQ or MM/F1QQQ/M etc Visitors from other countries can check with Ofcom if a Reciprocal Agreement exists and get a Temporary Licence They can also operate under supervision of a Full Licensee under that Licensees callsign Note that onward-CEPT and UK /MM Operation do not apply to Visitors and Temporary Licences issued under Reciprocal Agreements - these privileges apply to UK Full Licensees only
