Preparing for a Career Fair Follow these EASY steps to succeed at a career fair or any other networking event!

Before a Career Fair  Critique & finalize your resume  Participate in walk-in-advising at Toppel- no appointment necessary  Have plenty to hand out  Register on HireACane.com or update your accountHireACane.com  Many companies will interview candidates after a fair, so it’s important to have your account up & running  Upload your resume to HireACane.comHireACane.com  Do your company research  Review the Career Fair company list on HireACane.comHireACane.com  Research companies online & take notes!

During a Career Fair  Dress for success  Professional dress is MANDATORY and strictly enforced!  Review guidelines on our website by clicking on Professional Dress CardsProfessional Dress Cards  Strategize  Identify your top choices and use the company layout to locate them at the Fair  Give yourself time to visit all your top companies, but remain flexible enough to visit others  Never leave a booth without a recruiter’s business card!  Sell yourself  Don’t’ wait for recruiters to pull it out of you – show them what you have to offer!  Use your research – tell them something interesting you learned about their company (recruiters love this)

After a Career Fair  Follow up  Send a thank you note within 24 hours– make sure they remember you  Always be professional  Start the application process  Do they require you to fill out an online application? Is testing involved?  On-campus interviews  Are they interviewing on-campus? If so, get on their schedule using HireACane.comHireACane.com

When in Doubt  Visit the Toppel Career Center to have your resume critiqued: Monday – Thursday,10:00 am-4:30 pm (Summer hours: Monday – Thursday, 2:00-4:00 pm)  No appointment necessary  Attend an interviewing skills workshop  Schedule a mock interview with a career adviser on HireACane.com (must have attended an interviewing skills workshop beforehand) HireACane.com  Call us at  us at
