Are you ready? Is your institution willing to make the investment of effort necessary to focus on continuous quality improvement? Is your institution's agenda free from the distractions that would prevent it from paying attention to quality improvement? Does your institution understand how continuous improvement differs from “business as usual”? Have you identified some prospective targets for Action Projects?

Applying to AQIP Application reviews every two months Application forms, instructions, and sample available on-line 12 direct questions - concise application does not require extensive documentation Prompt decisions with clear, actionable reasons if deferred Assistance available from AQIP staff at all times

AQIP isn’t just a relationship with the Commission office. It’s a collaboration with vibrant organizations working together to improve their performance to meet the needs of those they serve.

Collaboration and Network Strategy Forums AQIP’s bi-monthly “News to Use” website Action Project Directory website Systems Portfolio Dialogues Workshops and seminars AQIP Peer Reviewers Systems Appraisals

Focus on proving institution meets fundamental expectations Focus on the institution continually improving performance over time Available to all accredited and candidate institutions Open only to accredited institutions not on probation or sanction Institution’s “peers” limited to those similar in control, scope, degrees, mission, size, etc. Institutions’ “peers” include all colleges and universities actively pursuing continuous improvement PEAQ (traditional procedure) vs. AQIP

Criteria require institution to provide evidence under 5 broad categories AQIP Criteria ask probing questions about processes, results, and improvement for 9 critical institutional systems Visiting team identifies concerns that require response Institution identifies Action Projects that drive improvement May require focused visits or monitoring reports on specific concerns Action projects crafted to address institution’s concerns and priorities PEAQ (traditional procedure) vs. AQIP

Self-study and site visit can constitute sole event in 10 year cycle Annual+ interaction with Commission during 4 year cycle New self-study Report created for each comprehensive visit Concise Systems Portfolio created once and then updated annually Institutions not meeting minimum expectations placed on probation or lose accreditation Institutions not continually improving return to PEAQ procedure PEAQ (traditional procedure) vs. AQIP

No differences Same dues Same organizational indicator report Same policies (federal compliance, institutional change, complaints, etc.)

Comparative costs/benefits PEAQ Self-study process Comprehensive team visit Focused visits or reports AQIP Strategy Forum Feedback on Action project updates System Portfolio Appraisal feedback

Other Cost Issues Costs of not identifying waste, improvements, and efficiencies Costs of not seizing new opportunities Costs of not crafting an organizational culture that helps the institution succeed Cost of standing still while the competition moves ahead
