Presentation transcript:

Is there is much evidence that the Bible can be trusted as a book inspired by God and not fabricated by man? “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching and rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim. 3:16-17)

EVIDENCE ONE It is history accurate. The Bible is about real people, real places and real time. First-hand eyewitness accounts of events which undeniably reveal its authenticity.

“Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses. … since I have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account … so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.” (Luke)

†eye witness accounts were written & circulated within years of Jesus’ death & resurrection. †Significant uniformity in what Jesus said and did by all four Gospel writers.

“Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man; for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him many Jews, and also many of the Greeks. This man was the Christ.” (Josephus)

1)66 books, written by 40+ authors over 1500 years; main message and the main character are unequivocally consistent. 2)Dead Sea Scrolls (1947) – thousand years older than the earliest copies we had of the Bible; only 5% variation - mostly just spelling of words & names.

3) “The number of Greek manuscripts and fragments known to exist has increased from about 1,500 in 1885 to over 5,700 in 2002”. These manuscripts reveal 99.6% accuracy. 4) “Archeologists have been able to identify a great many of the sites mentioned in the Bible”.

EVIDENCE TWO Prophetically accurate †Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies made about Him. † “But this is all happening to fulfill the words of the prophets as recorded in Scriptures.” (Matt. 26:56)

EVIDENCE THREE One theme throughout that has the power to transform every life and society † ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE for 44 authors over 1500 years to have such a unified message if it weren’t for ONE GOD guiding their minds and hands.

EVIDENCE THREE (Cont’d) “No prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophets themselves or because they wanted to prophesy. It was the Holy Spirit who moved the prophets to speak from God.” (2 Pet. 1:20-21)

Only the Holy Bible has the power to transform lives and whole societies from: †Meaningless to Meaning †Hopelessness to Hope †Hatred & Crime to Love & Justice †Guilt to Freedom through forgiveness †Separated from God to Peace with God

We can trust the Bible. The main story of the Bible is the Salvation Gift Jesus offers us if we believe and obey.
