Unit 15: Family Support Planning Unit Introduction and Overview Unit objectives:  The need for a family support plan  The key family support planning issues  The need for family support services at the alternate site

Unit 15: Family Support Planning Elements of a Family Support Plan All employees should develop a plan that includes:  Personal items and necessities.  Financial and legal documents.  An out-of-area contact.

Unit 15: Family Support Planning Elements of a Family Support Plan Include processes for:  Activating an emergency call-in number.  Tracking employees.  Providing guidance and assistance.

Unit 15: Family Support Planning Communicating During COOP Operations  Communicate early and often.  Update information as necessary.  Secure the worksite.  Safeguard vital records.

Unit 15: Family Support Planning Accounting for Employees All supervisors should have a contact list for their personnel.  Contact lists should be updated monthly when COOP is not activated.  Contact lists should be updated daily during COOP operations.

Unit 15: Family Support Planning Accounting for Employees Supervisor responsibilities:  Account for employees upon COOP activation or shortly thereafter.  Continue attempts to contact employees until all are accounted for.

Unit 15: Family Support Planning Notifying Families of Deceased Employees  Notification should be made:  By a senior leader.  Personally.  Provide contact numbers for EAP and HR.  Notify Public Affairs.

Unit 15: Family Support Planning Taking Care of Families Dependent care:  Encourage backup care plans for dependents.  Employees must plan and pay for whatever they arrange.

Unit 15: Family Support Planning Providing Medical Care  Make counseling services available.  Ensure that work stations are safe.  Encourage health and wellness classes.  Encourage stress releasers.
