Activity 1: Artwork in the fields Look closely – what have the farmers used?

What did the farmers use to create their moving art? Big tractors = wheels Bails of hay = bike frame Little tractors = pedal chain Plastic bails = handlebars Small bails = bike chain Container = pedals and seat

Using the pictures in front of you, create the layout of the moving bike - Cut up the pictures - Lay them out in the correct places - Big tractor = bike wheel - Bale of hay = bike frame - Mini tractor = pedal chain - Plastic bale = handlebars - Container = seat & pedal - Mini bales = bike chain etc Activity 1: Create a moving bike

Activity 1: What you’ll need

“As you know, the Tour de France is starting with the Grand Depart in Yorkshire in 2014, and I think it would be great if we could have some creative artwork along the route, just like they do in France. You saw the Farmers moving bike from 2011 didn’t you? I think it would be a great idea to use people, and see what words we can spell out, and to see what pictures we can make! I look forward to seeing what you can do, and hopefully see you lining the route in 2014!” Challenge from Sir Bradley Wiggins

What shapes can we make with our bodies when lying down on the floor? People and shapes

Draw stick men over the words on your activity sheets to plan out how you would create words that could be seen from above using people Activity 2: Planning art with people

Activity 2: Illuminating the route How would you create the words below using the people to spell out the letters? 1.Draw people over the letters below. 2.Write down next to the word how many people this word has used.
