Crucifixion and Resurrection Within Christianity Breanna Belisle

Crucifixion of Jesus Most famous Crucifixion In gospels, begins with his scourging Roman Soldiers guided him the Mount Calvary. Jesus Christ was stripped then nailed to the cross by his hands. Painfully, Jesus hung for three hours. Two thieves were crucified on either side of him. Soldiers found him dead, but to be certain, a solider drove a spear into his side. Taken down by sunset, and buried in a rock tomb.

Crucifixion in Christianity Important way of capitol punishment among the Persians, Seleucids, Carthaginians, and Romans. Constantine the Great, eliminated a Roman Empire, for veneration for Jesus Christ. Many were whipped when they were on the cross. Was a form of death in the ancient world many would fear. Used to kill traders, slaves, and the area’s worst criminals. Four types of crosses used for crucifixion : i.Crux Simplex ii. Crux Commissa iii.Crux Decussata iv.Crux Immissa. This type of punishment was used among the Persians,Assyrians, Scythians, Carthaginians, Germans, and Celts.

Good Friday Observed the Friday before Easter Christians show appreciation for Jesus dying on the cross. Many Christian's spend the day fasting and praying

Crucifixion of St.Peter St. peter was the first pope His original name was Simon, but Jesus changed it to Peter. After Jesus resurrected, he asked Peter “ Do you love me?” Peter moved to Rome where he converted many nonbelievers He was taken prisoner and put to death.

Resurrection of Jesus Christ was placed in a tomb. An angel told a woman the was no longer in the tomb, and “He has risen” There are approximately 12 accounts of Jesus’s resurrection, beginning with Mary ending with Paul. “The Bible says, "He [Jesus] was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification" (Rom. 4:25). "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Rom. 10:9)”

Resurrection in Christianity By definition resurrection is : “is a religious belief that a dead person will return to life through the power of God. The person will be restored to life in his or her physical body and individuality, but in perfected form.” Jesus Died on the Cross then resurrected three days later. Many Christians believe death is our greatest enemy, who will conquer all, except Christ. Some view the resurrection of Jesus as a redemption of humanity. Traditionally, Christians believe God defeated death through Jesus’ resurrection and crucifixion. Many believe God has accepted Jesus's sacrifice for our sins. Many Christians also believe Jesus is the savior of human kind. Accounts of Jesus's death can be found in the following scripture ( Four Gospels): Matthew 27:27-28:8; Mark 15:16- 16:19; Luke 23:26-24:35; and John 19:16-20:30.
