D99130r0 15/6/2015 A/V Introduction/Goals n Goals l Improved capability to continuously stream data l Additional error reporting for A/V applications l Permit A/V-specific applications as well as mixed A/V and PC applications n Overview l New Set A/V Configuration command l New Read and Write A/V commands l Reporting of Unrecoverable Read Errors and Deferred Write Errors l Allows both PIO and DMA A/V data transfers l Primarily for LBA addressing, CHS not fully supported

D99130r0 25/6/2015 A/V Data Transfer Periods n A/V Read and Write Recovery Time Limits are allotted times for complete command execution l Commands shall execute in the specified time period including data transfer and final status l Recovery Time Limits are not individually selectable on a per stream basis as currently defined l Host will typically transfer an application specific amount of data per period

D99130r0 35/6/2015 Read A/V Stream Command n URGent is a temporary overide to the Recovery time limit and effectively means “As Soon As Possible” l The actual action performed by the drive when URG is specified is vendor specific n Stream ID is a hint that indicates which stream the command is associated with l Use of or behavior specific to Stream ID is vendor unique

D99130r0 45/6/2015 Things That Are Missing... n Acoustic Seek Modes l Useful feature - No objection to SeaStream’s implementation l WD doesn’t believe this is A/V specific, i.e., PCs may very well want to trade lowered acoustics for performance n PIO is not missing… l Feedback indicates PIO transfer adequate for some A/V applications currently l Buffering in drive can alleviate some of the performance deficit associated with PIO transfers n Stream Rate Negotiation n Some Features Not Adequately Defined Yet l Updated document with clarifications will be available “soon”
