 The population and cities:  By 2015, the coastal population is expected to reach approximately 1.6 billion people or over one fifth of the global total with close to five billion people becoming urban dwellers by By 2050 the global population will exceed nine billion. Already, half of the world’s population lives in cities, most of which have inadequate infrastructure and resources to address wastewater management in an efficient and sustainable way.
