SH’MINI (EIGHTH) “The Sin of Nadab and Abihu” Vayikra/Leviticus 9:1 – 11:47

Nadab and Abihu They took their firepans to do their work in the Mishkan. A firepan is a metal grate for holding hot coals. They did something wrong. They did not do what the LORD commanded them to do.

The Fire As they were offering a different fire and incense fire came out from the presence of the LORD They disobeyed the LORD’s commandments Fire came out from above God’s Presence It burned them up and they died.

Vayikra/Leviticus 10:3 Then Moses said to Aaron, It is what the LORD spoke, saying, By those who come near Me I will be treated as holy, And before all the people I will be honored…

Aaron’s Reaction Aaron kept silent. He did not say a word. Moses asked the sons of Aaron's uncle to remove the bodies of Nadab and Abihu

Moses’ Warning Moses gave a warning to Aaron and his other sons. Moses told Aaron and his sons that the whole house of Israel, would cry and bury his dead sons. They still had to work in the Mishkan.

The Covering of Protection It is to obey God’s commandments The people who are in authority over you like your parents, guardians and teachers. Those in authority over us are something that God gives to us to help protect us.

The Evil One Hates You Those in authority help to protect us from the Evil One’s attacks. The Evil One hates people because God loves them. Because he hates us he seeks to kill, steal and destroy us.

An Example of Protection - Israel God gave protection and direction to the nation of Israel Through a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. When the cloud moved, they moved.

Your Spiritual Umbrella Your parents are spiritual protection that God places over your lives. “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you.” Other people that God places over your life are your Rabbi/Pastor, Teachers, Police, Government authority.

Let’s learn Hebrew! “Kadosh” “Holy”

What Did We Learn Today? We learned about the events surrounding Nadab and Abihu. The Evil One seeks to kill, steal and destroy us. It is very important to remain under the protection of authority.
