The Beginning of the End

Hezekiah Manasseh Father and son contrasted 2 Kings Chronicles 29.1 – Isaiah

1 Samuel 8.5-7,9,19 “Look, you (Samuel) are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.” But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” So Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. Now therefore, heed their voice. However, you shall solemnly forewarn them, and show them the behaviour of the king who will reign over them.” Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No, but we will have a king over us.

After Solomon 19 Kings in Israel All did evil in sight of the Lord 20 Kings in Judah only 8 were righteous All God wanted to do was to bless but... 2 Chronicles sums it up! Compare Hosea 1.2

Hezekiah 2 Chronicles Did right Manasseh 2 Chronicles ,9 Did evil

Hezekiah Typical of his people When things are bad – trust God When things are good – forget God - becomes careless/complacent - trusts in himself - pride - God “withdraws” from him - captivity prophesied - philosophical

Manasseh reigns as a 12 year old - Born during Hezekiah’s extra 15 years - Played the harlot (Hosea’s prophecy) 2 Kings idolatry - sacrificed his sons “through the fire” - soothsaying, witchcraft, mediums etc - provoked the Lord to anger - seduced Judah to do evil - shed innocent blood

Christ in all the scriptures GODS GRACE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHRIST

We have a king King of Kings Lord of Lords Hebrews ; No King but Jesus!!
