In Ireland the GAA is the dominant organisation for Sports Volunteering accounting for 42% of Sports Volunteers in Ireland The total economic value of GAA volunteering can be estimated at approximately €112,140,000 per annum Volunteer Coaches: Nationally, an approximate 12,800 weekly underage training sessions are held, equating to 16,976 hours of GAA training per week - an input comparable to that of employing 453 additional full-time coaches There is a need to promote and facilitate Applied Lifelong Learning (ALL)

The Coaching Enigma “Despite nearly 35 years of research and discussion, there still remains a lack of precision in terminology and approach, and a singular failure to reflect effectiveness and expertise literature to any conceptual understanding of the coaching process” Source: “An Integrative Definition of Coaching Effectiveness and Expertise” – International Journal of Sports Science and Coaching (Vol. 4; Iss. 3, 2009) Q. If there is a lack of certainty surrounding terminology and process, how can there be certainty regarding knowledge, skill and competency in relation to the validation of coaching qualifications? A. The Coach10 Model “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough” - Einstein

Applied Lifelong Learning (ALL) – Coach10 Formal Informal Non-Formal Face To V I R T U A L Process by which the assimilation of coaching knowledge, skill and competence contributes to the development of overall acumen on the basis that the core conceptual constructs – as espoused in the Coach10 Model – have universal application Course/ Workshop Community of Practice Mentoring

In 2013… “Commence with the end in mind.” “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” Stephen Covey The constructs of Motivation & Vocational Attributes will backbone a standards framework for validating and accrediting Coaching Qualifications and will also provide the title for the foremost Coaching Qualification at grassroots level i.e. the MVA Qualification.

In 2022… That all coaches will aspire to attain the MVA Qualification i.e. the coaching qualification, which validates that a coach can combine Motivation and Vocational inputs to create a series of Attributes, which inspire players to achieve their full individual and collective potential and, by so doing, to experience a sense of Total Playing Performance (TPP).

Aligning Coach10 with the EQF In the process of developing Courses/Workshops, Communities of Practice, Mentoring Programmes as part of the Coach10 Model – in conjunction with pilot partners; Currently exploring the best accreditation models for the MVA Qualification but are planning to develop a tiered qualification structure on the EQF.

Aligning Coach10 with the EQF The tiered qualification structure will provide coaches with the opportunity to apply their formal learning, and their informal and non-formal prior experiential learning in order to achieve as many modules as possible (through an RPL/APEL process) with continuous topping-up opportunities.

Challenge & Opportunity It is not possible to develop a qualification based upon knowledge, know-how, skill and competency without a set of conceptual constructs that promote Applied Lifelong Learning (ALL). Coach10 provides the conceptual constructs around which a qualification aligned to the Irish NQF and EQF can be developed.
