CASAGRAS Meeting – 1 st December 2008 – Shanghai Internet of Things – CASAGRAS Definition A global network infrastructure, linking physical and virtual objects through the exploitation of data capture and communication capabilities. This infrastructure includes existing and evolving Internet and network developments. It will offer specific object-identification, sensor and connection capability as the basis for the development of independent federated services and applications. These will be characterised by a high degree of autonomous data capture, transfer event network connectivity and interoperability.

International Platform Internationally-partnered platform to help steer the IoT development around the world with members investigating, communicating, disseminating and exploiting the key elements of the project. They will also undertake a fact-finding mission for their individual region. Other potential volunteers and experts to cover the rest of the world

Dissemination and Education To help identify and contribute to a global dissemination and education, training and awareness programme to explain the IoT to business and academe; to promote the set up of academies for AIDC and the IoT. BUSINESS ASSIST – WHAT IS IT? AIM UK INTRODUCED A BUSINESS ASSIST PROGRAMME FOR SMEs in 2004

THEY HAD TO SATISFY A SMALL PANEL OF RECOGNISED EXPERTS OF THEIR OWN UNDERSTANDING OF RFID AIM SECONDED A GROUP OF BUSINESS ASSIST EXPERTS FROM ITS MEMBERSHIP.

WE WERE SUCCESSFUL AND WERE ABLE TO OFFER UP TO 40% CONTRIBUTION TO IMPLEMENTATION COSTS UP TO €40,000 AIM WENT OUT TO OBTAIN NATIONAL AND EUROPEAN GOVERNMENT FUNDING.

Work Package 9 The main tasks will be to establish details of existing National Government initiatives and support programmes relating to RFID: Establish a communication pack to go to all Governments and Government agencies outlining what RACE networkRFID is, what it is doing and how we can help Plan Governmental workshops in the second half of 2010 and at the end of the project at which Governments can give examples of their own Best Practice and get an overview of what is happening in the RFID marketplace generally Develop a framework and a set of deliverables for creating member-state-funded national centres for RFID It is planned that the work of WP9 will commence at the 2010 General Assembly in Frankfurt

The UK Government views RFID as an excellent tool for raising productivity and promoting sustainable growth in the economy. As the Government’s principal action in rebalancing the UK economy entails addressing fiscal deficit the business benefits of the use of RFID are seen as important to addressing tough economic challenges particularly in the retail sector. Consequently, the UK Government is keen to improve and encourage the take-up of RFID technology. It wishes to work closely with the European Commission in addressing barriers to take up such as privacy and security matters UK Government - RFID Vision
