Fieldwork Round 2013 World Wise Quiz Fieldwork Round Supported by the Field Studies Council

Format There are 10 questions all somehow connected to fieldwork. There are 5 questions on fieldwork techniques/skills, and 5 questions about more general geographical knowledge related to fieldwork Answer each question in turn – consulting with other members of the team. GOOD LUCK!

Question 1 This piece of fieldwork equipment has to be held up in the air to take a reading, but what is it used to measure?

Question 2 These students are carrying out a study of a heather moorland. Name the piece of equipment (with the brown wooden frame in the photo above) they are using to sample the plants found here?

Question 3 The three picture clues above represent a type of place which attracts a lot of visitors and often forms the basis of a study on tourism or tourism impacts. What is this type of place called?

Question 4 This equipment is commonly used for fieldwork whilst working in a river. The plastic oranges are used to measure the speed of the flow. Why might plastic oranges be better for this task than real oranges?
