Agenda Supported Installation scenarios Preliminary hardware requirements Key improvements from SBS 2003 New Installation User Experience Walkthrough Migration Installation User Experience Overview Answer File Tool

Setup and Migration Goal: Simplify setting up a new SBS server or migrating to SBS 2008 Make it a repeatable deployment and management experience for you the partner More profitable, less mistakes, less weekends! Less wipe and load of OEM images Supported installation scenarios New server installation (no previous server) Migration from existing server (e.g., SBS 2003) In-place upgrade from SBS 2003 is not supported (migration only due to x86 to x64 architecture change) Details for virtualization are still being defined Will be available in 19 languages (same as SBS R2 release)

Hardware Requirements 4/14/2017 Hardware Requirements Minimum system requirements First server is 64-bit only Second server is 32-bit or 64-bit (Premium edition) Current Beta/TAP participants running 4 GB of RAM Minimum 60 GB HDD Two USB backup drives Separate hardware firewall Maximum system requirements Same as Windows Server 2008 Standard Memory 64-bit systems: 32 GB RAM 32-bit systems (second server in Premium): 4 GB RAM Processor OS is licensed by sockets (not cores) Up to four CPU sockets (64-bit/32-bit) Thus, it is possible for 4 socket system with 4 cores per socket to have 16 cores running in Standard Minimum/recommended system requirements and capacity planning currently being defined Microsoft Confidential - Internal Use Only

Improvements New install Migration SBS OOBE asks only questions necessary for customizing the installation of the server Advanced options for customizing installation are provided through VAP focused Answer File Tool Networking configuration is simplified to address support feedback SBS Answer File enables VAPs to streamline new server deployments Migration Domain name of SBS server does not change No need to “touch” each client because the domain name doesn’t change VAPs are no longer constrained to only supporting 52 migrations a year

New Installation User Experience Walkthrough

Getting Started Typical network layouts on the poster helps you connect server correctly for networking Additional information on back page and online Covers the 3 stages of getting the box up-and-running

Out-of-box Experience Two phases of the install of the server OS installation SBS OOBE installation End-customer business questions to customize the server Advanced customization available through Answer File

Networking Checks Network card issues Check for Public IP address

Installation issues Installation issues dialog guides them through addressing non-critical installation issues General help topic guides user through options to address issues Export feature to grab needed log files when troubleshooting

Specifying Drive Locations 4/14/2017 11:05 PM Specifying Drive Locations Use Move Data Folders wizard to specify where to store SBS application data You can script moving data using Windows PowerShell scripts Works with a new installation, migration, and OEM preinstalled box

Migration Installation User Experience

Key Steps In Migration Prepare the source server Create migration answer file Run OOBE (SBS 2008 server joins existing SBS 2003 domain) Run Migration Wizard Complete Migration Source server is removed and flattened Source server (SBS 2003) Destination server (SBS 2008) Contoso.local domain

Migration Support Matrix Supported through wizards (join domain) Supported through documentation SBS 2003 SP1 SBS 2003 R2 SBS 2008 Windows Server 2008, Standard edition Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition SBS 2000 Windows 2000 Server, Standard Edition

Answer File Tool

Answer File For SBS OOBE Same tool used to support new install and migration Limited validation for data entered in the tool Supplemental help guides user through choosing correct values We search the root of each drive (including removable media) The answer file is detected but empty, it’s basically an attended advanced mode install Use with autounattend.xml or oobe.xml to fully automate entire installation

Advanced Installation Pages Specifying network settings Specifying domain information
