Why do we organise this event?

Raise students' awareness on the different stages of writing Provide a platform for students to write with collaborative effort so as to make writing fun Develop students' generic skills such as communication, collaboration and creativity Aims of this event:

Facilitate cross-school teacher collaboration and develop curriculum leaders Raise teachers' awareness on the importance of teaching writing skills explicitly

Part 1 – Warm Up

Game A Categorisation of words There are 18 stickers in each envelope. Put the stickers in the correct columns. Fiction Groups: Non-fiction Groups:

Game A Categorisation of words Time limit: 2 minutes Put up your hands when you finish your work. Teachers will collect your work and check. If 12 out of 18 words/phrases are correct, a sticker will be put on your score board. Don’t Rush!

Game B Put the words in the correct order. Rearrange the words in the envelope to make a sentence. Time limit: 1 minute / sentence Put up your hands when you finish your work. Teachers will check your work. You cannot make any changes. You have to make 6 sentences. If you get 4 correct sentences, a sticker will be put on your score board. Don’t Rush!

Writing In this session, four groups will write a fiction text. the other four groups will write a non- fiction text. you will be given a question paper, some graphic organisers to choose from, a revision and editing checklist, a drafting sheet, a worksheet for writing the final product some pieces of rough paper.

you will be given 45 minutes to discuss and write. try to do drafting in 15 minutes a bell will ring 15 minutes before the writing time ends – make use of the checklists to check and polish your work Write down the number of words at the end of the paper ( xx words)

Instructions: I will ask 12 questions. Questions will be shown on the screen. You have to press the light button before you answer questions.
