New Directions Alternative Center (NDAC) Coordinator – Mr. C. Fletcher

New Directions Alternative Center: Overview – May 2014 NDAC moved to Smithfield High School at the beginning of the school year. The staff consists of 1 coordinator and 5 licensed teachers. The program utilizes the Career and Technical Education wing as its school setting.

New Directions Alternative Center: Curriculum NDAC utilizes two programs of studies as its academic medium. WHRO “Desire to Learn” (D2L) - An electronic standards-based learning management software program that allows access to core curriculum subjects. NovaNet – Online courseware that contains the entire core high school and middle school curricula.

New Directions Alternative Center: Student Data Number of students assigned since September 2013: 50 Current enrollment as of April 2014: 30 Program completers as of March 2014: 20 Students currently on Time for graduation: 27

New Directions Alternative Center: Student Data Three (3) students were placed in the GED program, where all completed the requirements. Two (2) students were withdrawn from IWCS and now attend the Commonwealth Challenge Program. One (1) student was withdrawn by the parents and entered the Job Corps program.

New Directions Alternative Center: Student Data One (1) student was withdrawn by the parents and moved to Ohio Two (2) students assigned to NDAC never enrolled

New Directions Alternative Center: Future Considerations Offer incentives for students to reduce their assigned time at NDAC! Expand student services through NDAC, such as, to offer GED as part of our program. Consider the possibility that the program may be more conducive to working high school seniors, offering them a more flexible schedule for classes Offer an option for an intensive study for juniors and seniors at risk of not graduating on time Offer “Credit Recovery” for students with excessive absences

New Directions Alternative Center We’re headed in the right direction!
