Zambian school children with disabilities face significant barriers due to a lack of specialised services and facilities and poor school infrastructure. The School of Excellence was born to address the gaps in education access among children with disabilities. Lenten donations will enable the purchase of a solar electricity system for a classroom block, in conjunction with a solar powered bore pump and water reticulation system which will provide clean drinking water to the school. Donations are not tax-deductible. 0 Clean drinking water for students with disabilities
Poor dental and optical health is a significant problem for the most vulnerable in our community, who struggle to access essential health services. Children who are affected are often withdrawn and disengaged both in school and at home. Connections UnitingCare aims to address this by providing free access to a range of health professionals located at their Family Centre in Doveton, an area of significant disadvantage. Lenten donations will support the purchase of equipment for each specialist provider, who will deliver services free of charge. Donations are tax-deductible. 0 Health care for the vulnerable
‘Hand Made with Pride’ is a partnership between UnitingCare Tasmania and the Tasmanian Women’s prison, teaching inmates a range of skills through a sewing design and production project. The items produced are distributed through emergency relief centres. Lenten donations will fund the cost of materials, another sewing machine and enable prisoners to receive financial support upon release to continue to develop their skills through the establishment of microbusinesses. Donations are tax-deductible. 0 Hand Made with Pride
St Albans Uniting Church is aiming to develop activities which will assist and encourage Vietnamese families who are struggling to make the cultural transition, and find it difficult to access support services that might help them. Lenten donations will support a homework club, family camps, parenting and family support programs, a community meals program, and the employment of a Vietnamese speaking co-ordinator.
