What are User Groups & Permissions? Permissions Group: A named collection of users with identical permissions. A group can have its own permissions, so any users added to that group are automatically granted the same permissions. Groups can be created, deleted, and updated through the site interface.

What are User Groups & Permissions? Inheritance: The ability for objects in a site, such as a list or library, to use the permissions assigned to users and groups through the central permissions interface.

Features of SharePoint Permissions Highly customizable system to allow direct control over which content and features of your SharePoint site are available to your end users. Role-based assignments allow for natural organization of users based on the business needs of your organization. Permission Groups allow for easy adjustments of access rights to large numbers of users without individually updating each user. Permissions between groups automatically integrate to provide users in multiple groups the highest combined level of permissions assigned to them.

Module I Create a Permissions Group

Module II Add a User to a Permissions Group

Module III Create a Custom Permission Level

Module IV Changing Permission Inheritance

Homework How will you use your SharePoint site? Which features are important to your organization? Who will need access to these features and who will manage them? Determine the types of users that will access your site and their roles in your organization. Discuss the layout of your site to determine if there are sections that should not be available to all users. Determine who will be site collection administrators and site administrators.
