Presentation transcript:

E. Muscles moving the wrist hands and fingers 1. Anterior muscles a. Superficial 1. Flexor carpii radialis- flexes and abducts wrist a. Originates from medial epicondyle of humerus b. Inserts at 2 and 3 metacarpals

2. Flexor carpi ulnaris- flexes and adducts wrist a. Originates from medial epicondyle of humerus and upper posterior border of the ulna b. Inserts at the pisiform, hamate, and 5th metacarpal

3. Flexor digitorum. superficialis- flexes middle 3. Flexor digitorum superficialis- flexes middle phalanges of each finger a. Origin is medial epicondyle of humerus coronoid process and lateral margin of anterior of radius b. Inserts at middle phalanges

b. Deep muscles 1. Flexor pollicis longus- flexes thumb a. Originates from anterior surface of radius and interosseous membrane (holds radius and ulna together) b. Inserts at base of distal phalanx of thumb

2. Posterior group a. Superficial 1. Extensor carpi radialis longus and brevi- extend and abduct wrist a. Origin is lateral epicondyle of humerus b. Inserts at 2 and 3 metacarpal 2. Extensor digitorum- extends phalanges b. Insert at 2-5 distal and middle phalanges c. Little finger separately controlled

b. Deep 1. Extensor pollicis brevis and longus- extend thumb and abduct wrist a. Originate form posterior surface of radius ( brevis) and ulna (longus) b. Insert at bases of proximal (brevis) and distal (longus) phalanx of the thumb
