Major Stair Design: Plurals in Spanish Lisa Michalczuk

Audience The intended audience of this project will be Spanish I students, beginning language learners.

Purpose The purpose of this project will be to teach the students the three rules of making words plural in Spanish. This will broaden their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in the target language.

Approach I will be using several strategies to teach interactively with the students. I will begin by reviewing the basis of making words plural. I will go through and teach the 3 rules individually, using example-rule as well as rule-example.

Approach After each individual rule, there will be several examples illustrating the meaning. Students will have several opportunities to check their knowledge by interacting with the lesson.

Structure The students will be asked to see a pattern in words and be able to match it to an individual rule. I will be using scaffolding to review each rule before the final evaluation of all three rules together. Patterns are important to locate in a foreign language.

Structure I will supply feedback on the evaluation section of the lesson. Students will be taken to slides if they are correct as well as incorrect. Correct Incorrect Click to see examples of feedback.

Bravisimo Yes! You are correct. The word ended in a vowel, you just a –s. Estupendo!

Lo Siento Sorry, you are incorrect. Take another look at the ending. This word ends in a vowel.

Feedback The feedback slides will reinforce the rule need to make that particular word plural. If they are correct, the rule is reinforced. If they are incorrect, they are given a clue to make notice of their error.

End Product The goal of the Major Stair Project is to introduce the three rules of making words plural in Spanish. It is to give ample examples as well as allow students to interact as they learn. Students will be able to walk away from this lesson with a better understanding of the three rules.
