Other terms: Dysphoria: a state of dissatisfaction, anxiety, restlessness, or fidgeting Definition: Endorphins are often called the body's natural pain relievers. Endorphins are biochemical substances made by the body that reduce pain and bring about a feeling of euphoria and well-being. Endorphins are classified as "endogenous opioid polypeptides" and they are thought to be produced by the pituitary gland and hypothalamus during strenuous exercise, and in response to pain, excitement and other stress stimulus. Once produced, endorphins are distributed throughout the nervous system where they interact with the opiate receptors to reduce our perception of pain. These natural pain relievers not only reduce the perception of pain, but they are also linked with an increased sense of euphoria and well-being.

Endorphins: Thought to be produced by the pituitary gland and hypothalamus during strenuous exercise, and in response to pain, excitement and other stress stimulus.

Carcinogen Any substance or agent that tends to produce a cancer.

Marijuana The dried leaves and female flowers of the hemp plant, used in numerous forms as a narcotic or hallucinogen. Marijuana is a vasodilator. Meaning is dilates your blood vessels. Blood pressure drops, sometimes triggering a fainting reflex.

Marijuana What are some other names for marijuana? You may hear these names mentioned on TV, by friends, while you are out and about, etc: Pot, Dope, Mary Jane, Green, Weed, Herb, etc.

What does marijuana do to your body? THC binds with cannabinoid receptors in the brain, causing reactions across the body depending on where in the brain these receptors are located. The distribution of these receptors is relatively uneven, explaining why some people experience a massive loss of function while others are less affected.

Continued When you consume THC (typically by smoking or eating Marijuana), the compound travels quickly through your body. It is absorbed into the bloodstream and is carried into the brain where, depending on the dispersion of the cannabinoid receptors, it will begin to have various effects. Once the user has ceased consuming THC or if the THC has reached its highest saturation point, maximum effects will be noticed by the user. This “high”, or feeling of euphoria, can typically last from 15 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the quantity of THC consumed and the tolerance of the particular individual, along with the potency of the marijuana consumed.

In Summary THC binds with cannabinoid receptors in the brain, causing reactions across the body. Once THC has reached its highest saturation point, effects are noticed. This “high” feeling can last anywhere from minutes.

What happens then? The typical results of THC consumption: Loss of coordination Audio or visual distortion Lack of time perception Feelings of euphoria, insecurity, joy, or paranoia Short term memory loss!

Why do the effects have such wide range? The reality is that the effects of Marijuana are not identical within each individual, and though we certainly don’t encourage experimentation or consumption, it is impossible for us to state with any level of certainty the effects of Marijuana on each unique individual.
