Justice or Mercy?
Justice Just – That which is right or good. Deut. 32:4 - He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.
Justice Justice – Is the administration of doing what is right. We have laws, rules and commandments to guide us in doing what is right.
Justice Psalms 37:28 - For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed; the offspring of the wicked will perish.
Justice Romans 2:5-6 - But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. God “will repay each person according to what they have done.”
Mercy Compassion shown on an offender of a law. An idea of not giving someone what they rightly desreve
Mercy Mercy is sometimes translated into compassion and loving kindness All these words describe mercy and what it really is… God’s love towards us.
Mercy Psalms 69:16 - Answer me, Lord, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. Psalms 136:1 - Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.
Mercy Romans 9:15 - “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” God is never less than fair with anyone. But He reserves the right to be more than fair with those He choses.
Mercy Psalms 103: The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
Justice & Mercy Man often times struggles with the fact that God can be both a God of Justice and a God of Mercy. You may have heard statements like, “I believe in a God of mercy not a judging God.” or “How can a merciful God sent someone to Hell?”
Justice & Mercy We need to see and understand the relationship between Justice & Mercy. Because you can’t have Mercy without Justice. Without Justice, Mercy is meaningless.
Justice & Mercy A God that doesn’t apply Justice can’t be a God of Mercy. Because God applies Justice, He can be Merciful. We need a God of Justice.
Justice & Mercy Romans 11:22 - Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.
Justice & Mercy Romans 11:22 - Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord
Justice & Mercy Isaiah 30:18 - Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! How is it then we can have His mercy and yet there still be justice?
Justice & Mercy
Romans 3: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
Justice & Mercy God didn’t give us what we deserve. He gives us Mercy! God’s Mercy is there for taking… But we have to accept it. If we chose not to accept it… then we will certainly receive God’s Justice.
