Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) Inspiration \In`spi*ra"tion\, n. 1. The act of inspiring or breathing in; breath; 3. (Theol.) A supernatural divine influence on the prophets, apostles, or sacred writers, by which they were qualified to communicate moral or religious truth with authority; a supernatural influence which qualifies men to receive and communicate divine truth; also, the truth communicated.

2 Tim. 3:15-17 (NKJV) and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. [16] All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Peter 1:20-21 (NKJV) knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, [21] for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

To get an idea by the natural thought process This eliminates God's involvement

2 Timothy 3:16; All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, 2 Peter 1:21; holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Samuel 23:2; “The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, And His word was on my tongue. Acts 1:16 this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, 1 Cor. 14:37 (NKJV) If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.

Some inspired, some NOT inspired How can we know without being inspired?

Psalm 119:160 – “The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.” Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. 2 Timothy 3:16; All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, Matthew 5:18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

Man was just a dictation machine Limits Man's Involvement

Literary styles do exist Matthew (Jewish measurements); Mark (Roman); Luke (Greek). The personalities of the writers come through: - Isaiah and Jeremiah. - Matthew and John, Paul & James. Etc. The education of the writers comes through: I John is written in elementary school Greek. - Hebrews has graduate school vocabulary.

God supplied the thought and man expressed the thought in his own words. Men would decide what to say:

1 Cor 2:5 – faith not to be in the wisdom of men. 2 Cor. 4:7 - But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 1 Peter 1: Prophets searched their own writings. 2 Peter 1:20,21 - Scripture of “no private interpretation.”

Some spoke unintentionally (Num 23:11,12; I Sam 19:20- 23). Some spoke what they did not understand – “Balaam’s donkey” (Numbers 22:28). Some spoke in foreign languages they had never understood or learned! (Acts 2) God Supplied The Words He Wanted Revealed:

God used the mouths of prophets as His own – Jer. 1:9; Ex. 4:12; Ez. 3:4,27; Zec. 7:12; 2 Sam. 23:3; Acts 4:24,25 The manner, timing and content of the apostles speeches were controlled by the Holy Spirit – Luke 21:14,15; Mat. 10:19,20; Luke 12:11-12; John 16:13 God Supplied The Words He Wanted Revealed:

Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) Plenary inspiration (Theol.), Full; entire; complete; absolute; as, a plenary license; plenary authority. That kind of inspiration which excludes all defect in the utterance of the inspired message. Verbal inspiration (Theol.), that kind of inspiration which extends to the very words and forms of expression of the divine message.

God has revealed His will to us through words. Words are vehicles of thought and convey concepts. We can understand God’s will through accepting the words of Scripture. Ephes. 3:3-5 (NKJV) how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, [4] by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), [5] which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets:

John 6:63 (NKJV) It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. The Very Words Of The Bible Are Inspired By God.

1 Corinthians 2:4,5 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. The Very Words Of The Bible Are Inspired By God.

1 Corinthians 2:13 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. The Very Words Of The Bible Are Inspired By God.

 Verbal (2 Corinthians 2:11-13).  Plenary (2 Timothy 3:16; John 16:13).  Unbreakable (John 10:35).  Smallest letter & Mark Irrevocable (Matthew 5:18).  Final Authority (Mat 4:4; Gal. 1:6-9; Rev. 22:18,19).  The grammatical number is inspired (Gal 3:16).  Spelling is inspired (Matthew 5:17-18).  Words are inspired (Matthew 10:19-20).  Tense is inspired (Matthew 22:31,32).

God has revealed His will to us through words. Words are vehicles of thought and convey concepts.

When the Bible writers spoke or wrote, they did so by inspiration; (John 14:26; 16:13; 2 Tim. 3:16,17; 2 Pet. 1:21). God gave them the idea and then selected and chose from their vocabulary the words to be used in making the idea known. Both the thought and the words by which the thought was made known are equally inspired.

Thus, every word in every part of the original manuscript is there because The Holy Spirit directed it to be there...

Isaiah 66:2 (NKJV) For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist," Says the Lord. "But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word. Do you tremble at God’s word

John 12:48 (NKJV) He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. Do you tremble at God’s word God’s word will judge us

1 Thes. 2:13 (NKJV) For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe. Do you tremble at God’s word God’s word will judge us What is your attitude toward the word of God?

All of God’s Word Is Inspired John 14:26 (NKJV) But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

All of God’s Word Is Inspired John 16:13 (NKJV) However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
