Patience JAMES 5:7-12 Chuck Peterman

Four Reasons to Face Trials with Patience 1. The Lord is Coming.

7Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. 8You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. James 5:7-8 (NIV)

12"Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. 13I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Revelation 22:12-13(NIV)

Four Reasons to Face Trials with Patience 1.The Lord is Coming. 2.The Judge is Standing at the Door.

“the Judge is standing at the door!” James 5: 9b (NIV)

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. 2 Corinthians 5:10 (NIV)

Four Reasons to Face Trials with Patience 1.The Lord is Coming. 2.The Judge is Standing at the Door. 3. Remember the Lord’s Character.

10Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. James 5:10-11 (NIV)

11As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. James 5:10-11 (NIV)

6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7(NIV)

Four Reasons to Face Trials with Patience 1.The Lord is Coming. 2.The Judge is Standing at the Door. 3. Remember the Lord’s Character. 4. Endure with Integrity.

A. WATCH GRUMBLING

Don’t grumble about each other, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. For look—the Judge is standing at the door! James 5:9 (NLT)

A. WATCH GRUMBLING B. COURAGEOUS LIVING

10 For examples of patience in suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. James 5:10 (NLT)

A. WATCH GRUMBLING B. COURAGEOUS LIVING C. CARRY THE BURDEN AND THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH.

11b For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy. James 5:11b (NLT)

God has the right to deal with even the most righteous according to His justice. All blessings come from God's goodness and without God's mercy and compassion toward us we would be at Satan's pleasure and disposal.

A. WATCH GRUMBLING B. COURAGEOUS LIVING C. CARRY THE BURDEN AND THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH. D. SIMPLIFY SPEECH

12 But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned James 5:12 (NLT)

A. WATCH GRUMBLING B. COURAGEOUS LIVING C. CARRY THE BURDEN AND THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH. D. SIMPLIFY SPEECH E. GET BUILT UP IN GOD’S LOVE

Jude 1:20-21

Bottom Line If we truly believe that Jesus is coming back, we have good reason to patiently endure with strength of character.

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. 2 Timothy 1:7-9 (NIV)

9 He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.” 2 Timothy 1:7-9 (NIV)

We can endure knowing that ultimate and absolute justice is just around the corner. Is there any better hope than to know that Jesus is coming again to set everything right?
