Seeking to Follow God’s Will Mark 14: 32 – 36

Seeking to Follow God’s Will Seeking God’s Will in Good Times: Mark 11 : 1 – 11 “ The Triumphal Entry” Jesus Heralded as he enters Jerusalem. Fulfills prophecy of found in Zechariah 9 : 9 – 10 Jesus, although exalted, still sought the Will of the Father.

Seeking to Follow God’s Will Seeking God’s Will in Good Times: Job 1 : 1 - 3 Job, the greatest of all the people of the East. Job 1 : 8 Job, although wealthy in material blessings, family and worldly standing, still sought the Will of the Father.

Seeking to Follow God’s Will Seeking God’s Will in Good Times: Israel and the Exodus, Exodus 14 : 31; 15 : 1 – 2 Israel freed from the slavery of Egypt, and are joyous in that freedom. Exodus 32 : 1 Israel, although freed from their earthly slavery, sought their own will, and not the Will of the Father.

Seeking to Follow God’s Will Seeking God’s Will in Good Times: Do we seek to follow God’s will in our good times? Do we diligently pray to God in good times? Do we diligently study God ‘s Word in good times? Do we diligently strive to be an example for Him to those around us in good times? Do we correct and teach our children in good times? Do we honor and obey our parents in good times? Are we seeking to follow His Will in good times?

Seeking to Follow God’s Will Seeking God’s Will in Times when we are in Authority: Mark 11 : 15 - 18 Jesus is showing His Authority in driving the sacrilege from His Father’s Temple. Jesus could have severely punished those practicing sacrilege. Jesus could have overlooked the sacrilege, allowing it to continue, and thus, not impacting His popularity. Jesus, although in Authority, still sought the Will of the Father, and disrupted those practicing sacrilege in His Father’s temple.

Seeking to Follow God’s Will Seeking God’s Will in Times when we are in Authority: 1 Samuel , chapter 13 Vs. 1 – Saul, Israel’s first King...in the third year of his reign (Authority)... Vs. 9 – Saul offered the burnt offering, which was not the Will of God. Vs. 13 – Samuel rebukes Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God.” Saul revealed his Pride in using his Authority to follow his own will and not the Will of the Father. Do we let our Pride affect our desire to seek to follow God’s Will when we are in positions of Authority?

Seeking to Follow God’s Will Seeking God’s Will in Times when we are in Authority: 2 Samuel , chapter 11 David, Israel's second King, is in a position of Authority. Vs. 2 - 4 – David used his Authority to satisfy his will with Bathsheba, and not the Will of the Father. Vs. 14 - 18 – David used his Authority to have Uriah put put to death, satisfying David’s will and not the Will of the Father. David used his Authority to satisfy his own will and desires of Lust and Deceit. Do we let our Lust and desires of Deceit affect our desire to seek to follow God’s Will when we are in positions of Authority?

Seeking to Follow God’s Will Seeking God’s Will in Bad Times: Jesus Praying in the garden before he is arrested. Mark 14 : 34 “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death.” One of Jesus’ lowest times on earth. Jesus, although sorrowful, still sought the Will of the Father. Mark 14 : 36 “not what I will, but what You Will.”

Seeking to Follow God’s Will Seeking God’s Will in Bad Times: Job 1 : 20 - 22 Job, after losing all his wealth and children, still sought to follow God’s Will. 2 Samuel 12 : 15 - 23 King David, through the death of his son, still sought to follow God’s Will. Acts 5 : 17 – 32 The Apostles, after being imprisoned and beaten, still sought to follow God’s Will.

Seeking to Follow God’s Will Seeking God’s Will in Bad Times: In our lowest times, do we still seek to follow God’s Will? When faced with poor health, do we still seek to follow God’s Will? When faced with financial problems, do we still seek to follow God’s Will? When we lose a loved one, or have family members facing troubles, do we still seek to follow God’s Will?

Seeking to Follow God’s Will No Time is too early to begin seeking to do God’s Will: Luke 2 : 42 – 52, Vs. 42 – Jesus at the age of 12 sought to follow God’s Will. 1 Samuel 2 : 8 “But Samuel ministered before the Lord, even as a child.” 1 Timothy 4 : 12 “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” We are never too young, too old, too lost, too good, or too bad to seek to follow God’s Will.

Seeking to Follow God’s Will Becoming a Christian: Hear the Gospel of Christ (Romans 10 : 17), Believe in Jesus as the Son of God (John 8 : 24), Repent of sins (Acts 2 : 38), Confess Jesus as Lord (Romans 10 : 9 – 10), Be baptized for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 22: 16), Be faithful to God until death (Revelations 2 : 10).
