PROBLEM IN OUR COMMUNITY PLASTIC POLLUTES BECAUSE OF IMPROPER GARBAGE SYSTEM. INCREASE IN DIESEASES EVERY YEAR BECAUSE OF BLOKAGE OF SEWERAGE & DRAINAGE SYSTEM OF THE AREA IN RAINY SEASONS. LACK OF AWARENESS AMONG SLUM AND RURAL PEOPLE.

PLASTIC POLLUTION- PROBLEM AREA IDENTIFIED

What are the reasons responsible for Plastic Pollution in our Community. Waste of the households, Shops, Hotels & restaurants. Improper garbage system of the locality. Irregularity of the Pvt. Garbage contractors. Ignorance of the people about the causes and effects of the plastic pollution. Lack of knowledge and education about the plastic pollution and its effects.

PLASTIC POLLUTION AND EFFECT ON OUR ENVIORNMENT Plastic pollution is littering the landscape. Animals of the Badheri and nearby rural areas are dying due consumption of plastic waste. Plastic waste in rainy seasons blocks the drainage and sewerage system of the area and this increases diseases in the area every year.

SOLUTIONS TO CONTROL PLASTIC POLLUTION. Awareness campaigns- Stop use of plastic bags. Educate people about the plastic pollution and its effects on our environment. Road show for promoting “No to plastic bags”, and display of banners on the walls of slums, colonies and societies. Join hands with the Municipal Corporation to do survey and improving the garbage dumping system. Support NSS, NGOs, Volunteer agencies and others to organise “Safai Abhiyan” in all Society slums, colonies and rural areas. Commitment and ownership by every individual can control the problem.

Remedies Switch to reusable shopping bags. By using ONE reusable cloth bag, you can save up to 6 plastic bags a week that translates into 24 bags a month or 288 bags a year that amounts to 22,176 bags in an average lifetime Recycle your plastic bags. If you do end up using plastic bags now and then, recycle them. Many grocery stores now collect plastic bags for recycling.

PLEDGE Our environment is deeply affected due to plastic pollution because it takes very long time to destroy. It is polluting our environment and degrading the fertilisation of our land. So we all do hereby pledge that, we will “say no to plastic bags” and stop using plastic bags. We will use reusable cloth bags only and we will keep our Chandigarh city clean, green and always ‘City Beautiful’.
