2 Workforce Initiatives Best Employers for Workers Over 50 award AARP Foundation Litigation AARP Foundation – Income Programs Consumer Programs & Resources Advocacy / Policy

3 Workforce Initiatives Work Reimagined: New social network-based jobs program for experienced workers that leverages LinkedIn to deliver access to current job openings. Best Employers: Best Employers for Workers Over 50 program, co- sponsored by AARP and the Society for Human Resource Management, is seeking organizations that offer policies and practices that appeal to workers 50 and over. SBA Alliance: Strategic alliance between the Small Business Administration and AARP to provide counseling and training to entrepreneurs over the age of 50 who want to start or grow a small business.

4 Work Reimagined First talent exchange dedicated to helping companies find experienced workers…and to helping experienced professionals connect to more satisfying careers. WorkReimagined.org connects to jobs, to peers, and to discussions. Leverages the power of social media via LinkedIn. Almost 150 participating companies and over 1,000 in discussion group. Participating companies sign a pledge, commit to recruiting across diverse age groups, and consider all job applicants on an equal basis.

5 Work Reimagined Pledge Employers that sign the Pledge agree that they have: Openness to the value of mature workers Nondiscriminatory HR policies Immediate hiring needs Pledge Language: “ We believe in equal opportunity for all workers, regardless of age, and that 50+ workers should have a level playing field in their ability to compete for and obtain jobs. Recognizing the value of experienced workers, we pledge to recruit across diverse age groups and to consider all applicants on an equal basis as we hire for positions within our organization.” Selection of Participants: AT&T, Google, The Hartford, MetLife, UnitedHealth Group, Harvard University, ToysRUs, Lowes and many other local and national companies

8 Best Employers Biennial recognition program for companies with best practices and policies that address the issues impacting the aging labor force and create roadmaps for the workplaces of tomorrow. Co-sponsored, along with AARP, by the Society for Human Resource Management. Any employer headquartered in the United States and with at least 50 employees is eligible. Submission deadline for 2013 awards is November 12, 2012.

9 Best Employers Criteria for independent review includes: Recruiting practices. Workplace culture. Health & pension benefits. Alternative work options – flexible scheduling, phased retirement, job sharing. Opportunities for training, education, and career development. Opportunities for retirees.
