WELCOME TO SEMINAR ON CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR) FROM PROFIT TO PHILANTROPHY TO PROFIT BY-ADV PUSHPA YADAV

MEANING OF CSR Corporate Social Responsibility means commitment towards society and includes protecting and improving social welfare measures by profit oriented organizations. It is an investment in community initiatives and return is good of people at large. It depicts moral values in Corporate sector.

SHORT INTRODUCTION Till 1990 was in the form of charity Building of schools, sanatoriums, Hospitals, Colleges, Medical centers for general public at large Corporate like TATA ’ S, BIRLA ’ S, GODREJ etc were frontrunners in India.

CHANGE IN CORPORATE THRU CSR STRONGER FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE AND PROFITABILITY (eg thru eco-efficiency) IMPROVED ACCOUNTABILITY TO AND ASSESSMENT FROM THE INVESTMENT COMMUNITY ENHANCED EMPLOYEE COMMITMENT DECREASED VULNERABILITY THRU STRONGER RELATIONSHIPS WITH COMMUNITIES IMPROVED REPUTATION AND BRANDING

BENEFITS OF CSR INCREASED SALES & CUSTOMERS LOYALTY ENHANCED BRAND VALUE & REPUTATION INCREASED ABILITY TO ATTRACT AND RETAIN QUALITY EMPLOYEES INVESTORS AND BUSINESS PARTNERS BETTER PRODUCTIVITY OF WORKFORCE COOPERATION WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES EFFICIENT OPERATIONS RESULTING IN IMPROVED FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE INCREASED STOCK VALUE, REDUCED LITIGATION & ENVIRONMENTAL COSTSS BETTER & FAST GOVERNMENT APPROVALS, REWARDS, TAX BENEFITS.

IT COMPANIES LIKE TCS, WIPRO HAVE DEVELOPED SOFTWARES TO HELP CHILDRED AND TEACHERS IN SCHOOLS ACROSS INDIA THROUGG TCSRD TATA CHEMICALS WORKS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES AROUND ITS OPERATIONS RELIANCE RURAL DEVELOPMENT TRUST (RRDT) CONTINUED ITS ACTIVITIES UNDER GOKUL GRAM YOJANA OF GOVERNEMNT OF GUJARAT. (TNS INDIA (A RESEARCH ORGANISATION AND THE TIMES FOUNDATION THRU FINDINGS REVEALED THAT OVER 90% OF ALL MAJOR INDIAN ORGANISATIONS SURVEYED WERE INVOLVED IN CSR ACTIVITIES

CONCLUSION WITH ONSET OF LIBERALISATION, PRIVATISATION, AND GLOBALISATION (LPG) IN INDIA CORPORATE ENTITIES AND PUBLIC SECTOR COMPANIES ARE SHOWING KEEN INTEREST IN COMMUNITY INITIATIVE PROGRAMME SUCH AS EXTENDING HELP TO SELF HELP GROUPS, MICROFINANCE, UNEARTHING THE TRAPPED CULTURAL VALUES, ADVANCEMENT OF SOCIALLY BACKWARD COMMUNITY ETC. WHICH SHOWS THAT THEY ARE IN RACE TO ESTABLISH THEIR REPUTATION IN COMMUNITY AND PROJECT THEIR PRESENCE THRU CSR.
