Entrepreneurship Unit Lesson 1 The Entrepreneurial Spirit – Catch it!

What is an Entrepreneur? Entrepreneurs—people who attempt to earn money & make profits by taking the risk of owning & operating a business.

Advantages of Being an Entrepreneur. personal freedom (pick your own line of work; set own hours; you decide what you’ll do each day) personal satisfaction (entrepreneurs have a passion for their business…they do it because they love it!) potential for increased income (assuming your business concept & hard work will keep you from becoming a statistic) increased self-esteem (owning a business is very gratifying…knowing it is successful because of you!)

Disadvantages of Being an Entrepreneur great risk & potential loss of income (high failure rate among business start-ups) long, irregular hours (16+ hour days are the norm) need for daily discipline (many tedious, time-consuming tasks; there’s no calling in sick!)

Characteristics of an Entrepreneur organizational skills tremendous personal drive leadership ability skills/knowledge specific to operating a business many have “entrepreneurship” in their blood lines
