The Mona Lisa The Mona Lisa was started in 1503 but was never finished. It is Leonardo’s most famous painting. The painting was inspired by the wife of Francesco del Giocondo. The Mona lisa was done in a type of painting style called Stufmoto, the Italian word for smoke.

The Last Supper The Last Supper was one of the few paintings that Leonardo finished. When it was finished it was a masterpiece, but within 10 years it started to flake off the wall. The Last Supper was painted in the dinning hall of the of the Santa Maria Delle Grazie church in Milan.

Inventions Inventions Leonardo had a complex mind so some of his inventions were to complex for his time! Inventions such as his hang glider were not tested for over 700 years. Leonardo was always trying to test his inventions himself, but never got to it. This is a page from one of Leonardo’s notebooks that shows something like a helicopter.

Did His Glider Work? The video about to be shown tells how two scientists used Leonardo’s original bird like glider design to see if it could actually fly. video.mp4

Life Leonardo’s life was not all about art, he also studied about human and animal anatomy. Because of this interest Leonardo ended up dissecting over fifty human corpses! This drawing from one of Leonardo’s note books, The Study Of The Human Proportions, is how he tried to relate the body to the circle and square.

Other Important information Leonardo da Vinci was left-handed. So that he wouldn’t smear the ink, Leonardo did the writings in his notebook in mirror writing but also for some secrecy as well. Because he was to busy with other things, or for some other reason Leonardo never married. Leonardo loved animals so much that he became a strict vegetarian and bought birds just to set them free.
