CYBER BULLYING TODAY BY: MELISSA PINEDA & ELENA CORRALES

IS THERE ANY EXPLANATION AS TO WHY CYBER BULLYING IS A PREVALENT ISSUE IN SOCIETY TODAY? New Technological Tools in the Age of communication

WHAT DOES CYBER BULLYING IMPLY? According to ciao.co.uk Cyber bullying is one of the fastest- growing forms of harassment affecting both children and adults. An Internet bully is constantly in demand for personal information and their repeated attempts to embarrass and intimidate those who resist revealing such information.

It has been said the invention of the computer triggered cyber bullying but it is rather the way in which human beings run technology. In fact, computers were first designed to perform the jobs of people who spent hours calculating multiplications, in other words they were used for mathematical purposes. The Internet then evolved in the early 1960s as a great potential value in allowing computers to share information on research and development in scientific and military fields.

universities are connected online, new communication networking for military Electronic mail is designed along with the symbol Internet is designed as a mean for communication between computers along with file transferring s, electronic bulletin boards, news and other information is posted online First virus shuts down over 10% of all computers First navigational center Mass marketing campaigns evolve.

1995 Dial-Up Internet Access Broadcasts of images evolved and blogs are designed Music downloading, electronic commerce and MYSPACE.COM is designed Viruses become a BIG thing Wikipedia.com is designed and copyright violating starts Spam, unsolicited sand pornography evolve Internet worms are designed Wikileaks, a site disclosing confidential information is disabled.

IS THERE ANY KIND OF EVIDENCE ON CYBER BULLYING’S ROOTS? YES, traditional bullying maybe?

According to Conn (2009), “...cyber bullying is the new weapon of choice for a growing number of children....” as it adheres to the infinitesimal world of cyberspace. Traditional Bullying Verbal Physical Verbal Cyber Bullying Verbal Harassment Pseudonyms Anonymity Relational Cyber Stalking

CYBER BULLYING VS. TRADITIONAL BULLYING Traditional BullyingCyber Bullying Had to let their victims see them and only gained support of friends who were around. Have to have the courage to physically bully another child or at least use comments to their face. Only act out on their victims when they see them. Stopping a traditional bully was relatively easy with the right preventative measures. Humiliate, threaten, and belittle their victims with an UNKNOWN identity and have an audience of thousands. Communication methods are used more and more in their daily lives. Potential for damaging statements is even greater. Hundreds of children can gang up on a single child. All it takes is a few key strokes and a cyber bully can humiliate their target. Can bully others any time as cell phones and computers are both at home and at school. Comments are impossible to stop and can potentially reach an unlimited number of people.

HAS CYBER BULLYING HAD WORST IMPLICATIONS IN SOCIETY THAN TRADITIONAL BULLYING?

It has been linked to: Depression Anxiety Low self-esteem Suicide

EMOTIONS INVOLVED IN CYBER BULLYING A new era more technologically advanced. What makes it so dangerous and hazardous is the extensive research it has. Compared to traditional bullying there are still emotions being played with and harmful.

REPERCUSSIONS A great amount of stress is put off on its victims through cyberspace. Its meant to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person in front of nearly the whole world. Once intimidating go up on the internet they can’t go back. What home once felt safe it doesn’t now, since internet is accessible nearly everywhere. As a result fear is predominant in cyber bully victims.
