Guiding Principles Reinvent ourselves: – Significantly greater outcomes – Reduce costs Focus on what we’re going to do for Virginia Resources are already in our budgets (live with what you’ve got)

Our Challenges 1. More students 2. More underprepared students 3. The call for more college graduates 4. Stretch Goals: Achieve 2015 In an environment of: Less public funding More public accountability

More students Historic Headcount Credit AY 1994 to AY 2010 Last four years: Headcount +41,000 FTEs +26,000

More students The average VCCS graduate needs four years to complete an associate’s. More than 30% need five or more years.

More students Nearly one million Virginians 18 years or older have some college experience but have not earned a credential.

More underprepared students Over the last five years, nearly 50% of all recent high school graduates required developmental education.

More underprepared students 25% The percentage of VCCS developmental education students who graduate or transfer in four years.

The call for more college graduates Five million additional American college graduates over the next decade. 100,000 additional Virginia college graduates over the next 15 years.
