Using E-Class Searching for position titles containing a key word or phrase

This is a PowerPoint presentation of about five minutes duration. You may exit the presentation at any time simply by closing the Window. It will explain how to find job titles containing a particular word or phrase. Where this arrow appears, click on it to advance the slides.

Search based on Position Title Because of abbreviations and acronyms in position titles, searching for an exact title will seldom yield results. It is always wiser to search on part of the title, namely a word or phrase that is distinct enough to reward your search of the database.

Start a clean search by clicking “view/search”… This resets all the search default values.

Search Example: Find descriptions containing “Facilities” This search technique exploits the Position Title field.

Use a ‘wildcard’ search… E-Class is actually an Oracle database, so we use Oracle wildcard search methods. To search for “Facilities” insert it between two % signs, as shown above. This triggers a search based on “(any letters) Facilities (any letters)”. %Facilities% Scroll down (click) to continue…

Searches are executed by clicking the Submit button Execute the search…

Search results are displayed in table format… The search yielded 16 positions containing the word “Facilities” View this case file by clicking on the green hyperlink… Case files are viewed individually by opening them.

This is a single case file (top portion) The job description is found under “Related Documents”. Click the blue hyperlink to open the document…

The job description opens in Microsoft Word…

If necessary, use your back key to return to the index… …to explore other job descriptions.
