WHERE IS ICELAND? ICELAND IS IN THE NORTH WEST OF EUROPE IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE. IT IS SURROUNDED BY THE ATLANTIC OCEAN. ICELAND IS A SMALL COUNTRY

GENERAL DATA THE CAPITAL CITY IS REYKJAVIK IT HAS GOT 320,137 INHABITANTS ITS TOTAL AREA IS 103,001 KM². THE AREA OF ITALY IS 103.001 KM²; IT IS BIGGER THAN ISLAND (? check the two areas!) DENSITY OF POPULATION: 3,09 INHAB/KM² IT IS A PARLAMENTARY REPUBLIC ICELANDERS HAVE FREEDOM OF RELIGION UNDER THE CONSTITUTION OF ICELAND, BUT THE CHURCH OF ICELAND, IS THE STATE CHURCH IT IS PART OF EUROPE THE NATIONAL CURRENCY OF ICELAND IS THE ICELANDIC KRÓNE. VOLCANOES ON THE ISLAND THERE ARE 130 VOLCANOES,THE MOST IMPORTANT ARE: HEKLA, KATLA, LAKI, ASKJA AND KRAFLA. THE GEYSER IS A SOURCE OF HOT WATER THAT HAS PERIODIC ERUPTIONS. THEY CREATE COLUMNS OF HOT WATER AND STEAM. THE WORD GEYSER COMES FROM GEYESIR, WHICH IS THE NAME OF THE MOST FAMOUS GEYSER IN ICELAND.
