 Began at City College of San Francisco in 2004 To support AAPI students with high needs  Created at College of Alameda in 2009 with two other learning communities  Initiated here at Laney College in Spring 2010 using special funding under the AANAPISI Grant

 Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution  5-Year Federal Grant to develop best practices to support AAPI students at 2- and 4-year institutions

 AAPI student is an invisible crisis.  Focus on model minority “success” resulted in less attention to low achievement among AAPI students, leads to neglect of programs and services for AAPI students.  This myth ignores how AAPI students contend with the same issues that other communities face.  AAPI data masks high levels of poverty and academic barriers. Data on some AAPI groups are nonexistent.

AAPI College Enrollment are evenly distributed in two-year and four-year institutions, with the majority attending public institutions.

*AAPI total includes Asian, Filipino, Pacific Islander. Data disaggregation was not possible given the available data set.
