The Rise of Islam Flowchart Read pages 374-375 to complete Muhammad was born in Makkah in 570. He was raised by his uncle. As a wealthy merchant, he became dissatisfied with the wealthy in the way they honored their family, ran businesses, and treated the poor.

The Rise of Islam Flowchart Read pages 374-375 to complete Muhammad was born in Makkah in 570. He was raised by his uncle. As a wealthy merchant, he became dissatisfied with the wealthy in the way they honored their family, ran businesses, and treated the poor. After praying in the hills, an angel told him to preach Islam. He returned to Makkah and told everyone to destroy statues and worship only Allah. He taught that all wealth should be shared and god would reward those living a good life. His message attracted only his family and the poor at first. The wealthy and religious did not like his message, they thought he was taking away power. He moved his followers in 622. Their trip to their new city of Madinah is known as the hijrah, “breaking off relationships”. Madinah accepted Muhammad as god’s prophet and their ruler. He created an Islamic state, one that uses government power to uphold Islam. He required loyalty of all to the Islamic state. His army conquered Makkah and made it the holy city of Islam in 630. Muhammad dies two years laters.
