What is the Purpose of This Form? Used to Determine Work Eligibility, Tax Status and benefits Used for Employment and Tax Withholding Purposes. Taxes in the U.S. are Based Upon Visa Type Immigration Status Length of Time Present in the U.S. Source of your income/wages While Working in the U.S., You Have to Pay Taxes (There is an Exception to this Rule) NIU is Obligated to Withhold Taxes
Who Should Fill out the form? All New Non-resident Faculty, Student and Staff. Update the Form Every Year Do Not Fill Out Tax Forms W-4 or 8233 A Properly Completed FNIF is Used to Generate the Correct Tax Documents You Will Sign
Types of taxes Federal Taxes: Federal Government Taxes State Taxes: Illinois FICA Taxes: Oasdi and Medicare Students are Normally Exempted from FICA taxes
