Internal Gear Products Home Internal Gear Products Internal Gear Pumps Internal Gear Pumps External Gear Pumps The Internal Gear, or Gear-Within-a-Gear pumping principle, has a motor driven rotor (outer gear) which drives the inner (idler) gear. As the teeth unmesh on the suction side, it creates voids which allow atmospheric pressure to force fluid in. Fluid is carried on both sides of a crescent, then the gears re-mesh on the discharge side to force fluid out. With only two moving parts, the design is elegantly simple and extremely reliable. Rotary Lobe Pumps Home Internal Gear Pumps External Gear Pumps The Rotary Lobe pumping principle uses two rotors. These unmesh on the suction side to allow atmospheric pressure to draw fluid in and carry it around the perimeter of the casing, then the rotors mesh on the discharge side to force fluid out. Bi-, tri- and multi-lobe rotor forms are available depending on the fluid to be pumped, with bi-wing rotors shown here. The rotors are driven by a timing gear to prevent rotor-to-rotor contact.
