Suborder Map Soils of Minnesota

PM = till, loess, outwash, lacustrine and bedrock. Minnesota soils are variable due to PM, Climate, Topography and Vegetation ( time is similar) PM = till, loess, outwash, lacustrine and bedrock. Climate = drier from east to west Topography = slope position Vegetation = Prairie and Forest

Soil Change due to Human Influence

Clarion – Udoll a prairie soil on Des Moines Lobe Till, on summits and hill slopes, well drained.

Zimmerman – Psamment – a forested soil on outwash on hillslopes and summits, well drained.

Nashwauk - Udalf – a forested soil on Des Moines Lobe till on summits and hill slopes, well drained.

Fargo – Aquert – a prairie soil on lacustrine deposits, low areas, poorly drained, dry climate. Bgss

Webster – Aquoll – a prairie soil on Des Moines Lobe till, in low areas. Poorly Drained.

Barnes – Udoll – a dry prairie soil on Des Moines Lobe Till on hill slopes and summits, well drained.

Port Byron - Udoll – a prairie soil from loess on hill slopes and summits well drained.

Ahmeek- Udept – a forested soil on Superior Lobe Till, on hill slopes and summits, well drained. DYSTRIC EUTRUDEPTS

Lester- Udalf – a prairie/border soil on Des Moines Lobe Till on hill slopes and summits, well drained. State Soil of Minnesota

Which soil of the week do you live near Which soil of the week do you live near? What is Suborder for most soils in this area?

Wisconsin Soils

State Soil of Wisconsin - Antigo Antigo silt loam was named the official state soil of Wisconsin by an act of the State Legislature in 1983, a declaration intended to remind us of the vital importance of our soil resources. Antigo silt loam was selected to represent the more than 550 different soils in Wisconsin. It is a productive, well-drained soil with a light-colored surface layer developed under northern hardwood forests. Antigo soils are formed in silty material underlain by sand and gravel on glacial outwash plains. Antigo silt loam is a versatile soil, supporting mainly dairy, potato, and timber production http://www.wi.nrcs.usda.gov/technical/soil/antigo.html
